St. Elizabeth University Parish

OCIA is the ordinary way through which a non-Catholic adult is prepared and initiated into full communion with the Catholic Church. OCIA in most parishes entails about 2 years of formation. Here at Saint Elizabeth’s, and because many of the inquirers are students of Texas Tech which is one of the unique challenges, the order was streamlined to be completed in about 7to 8 months. This expedited process demands of the inquirer their commitment to attend the sessions so that the basics of the Catholic faith is learned with full transparency and rationality. But greater than just the intellectual quest is the mystical invitation to a love relation from Jesus himself.

The OCIA community comes together based upon a schedule aligned with Texas Tech’s Fall and Spring Semester. The sessions take place every Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. and the venue is at the St. Elizabeth Conference Center (or another parish facility as appropriate to accommodate the number of participants).

**Adult Catholics who need to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation but have already received the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion can join the OCIA as a means of “really getting to understand their faith”. But there is also another means of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation if the OCIA schedule is not workable for the inquirer. Please contact the Parish Office at (806) 762-5225 for this information.
